Please spend time on the Clear Lake Bicycle and Pedestrian Study that is toward the bottom of this Houston-Galveston Area Council website. Our proposal will probably be similar to the study.

Add your comments about this. We want to know what you think. And plan to come to the meeting July 26 at the Freeman Library at 7 pm to hear our discussions.
I'm so glad a hike/bike trail is being considered!
ReplyDeleteI know it was mentioned on an earlier post, but having some kinds of hills to work on would be fantastic in this wonderfully flat area we live in. I moved here from Atlanta, GA, that is one thing I do miss - the hills of varying gradation. (We had one neighborhood with a street of 15% gradation! A fantastic workout!) It would be nice to see some varying gradations for people at different fitness levels to challenge themselves.
Also, stairs would be great so we wouldn't have to seek out bleachers to run. Putting in stepped wooden RR ties up the elevation would also work.
Thank you for the fantastic job you are all doing!
There has been a discussion as to how to dispose of all the dirt that will be excavated from the drainage ditches and this would be one way to redistribute it. The plans are currently being drawn up by the Trails subcommittee and the suggestion to route the hike/jogging path to include elevated paths and/or stairs might be doable. RR ties would lend a more natural, greener appearance and would probably be cheaper to put in than concrete or metal steps.
ReplyDeleteYes, there's been considerable discussion about recommending some hills, and of course there will be slopes going down to the water from current elevation. But considering the amound of dirt to be excavated, some hills, perhaps larger than current ones will add visual diversity and exercise opportunities. I saw them somewhere referred to as kid play hills too. Seems to me the Webster Park behind on Texas Ave has some built up hills. It all makes sense because this area is certainly hill-challenged!
ReplyDeleteI can see where some residents next to the court may not want views disrupted, but it depends and there may be adequat space over closer to the rec ctr.
Steps would be a pretty easy addition, especially if as simple as railroad ties. Thanks for the great suggestions!
